Good Book

It's a long, long book, but read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. If you want to know why what has happened to our economy and political system has happened, read Atlas Shrugged. It's uncanny-- down to the very things that are written in the newspapers, she pegs it. Barney Frank is right out of its pages.

Yich! It's clear that you've got taste, and know this is closed-minded in probably a bad way, but I don't think I can bring myself to read Ayn Rand. Some book came out a couple of years back about how the neocons all love her. Then there's her view on gender roles. And I think that Ayn Rand-inspired deregulation is a big part of the reason why the economy fell apart, although this is probably partly prejudice on my part. Factcheck.org says there were many factors and it's the kind of situation that begs everyone to attach their own value-inspired interpretation to it. But I think it was Ayn Rand's fault.

What's the trouble with Barney Frank?

Oh and on an unrelated note, given your epigraph I take it you like Bad Company? Have you seen a film called _Scotland, PA_? It's an adaptation of _Macbeth_ set in a fast food restaurant in rural Pennsylvania in the seventies, with a score almost entirely composed of Bad Company songs. Not everyone likes it, but I thought it was great.
